A new intake route
The Army launched Project Gatekeeper on October 23 to evaluate commercial software in isolated environments, according to its October 25 announcement. The platform checks submitted code and containerized applications for security issues and provides developers with feedback and supporting evaluation records.
The Army says this approach is intended to reduce the delays companies encounter when seeking entry to its software ecosystem. Automated screening supports the decisions of authorizing officials; it does not mean that every submitted product receives permission for operational use.
Access still has limits
The announcement says access initially requires a department common access card. A commercial-internet route through Login.gov is planned, rather than confirmed as available to all vendors.
Our assessment: the important distinction is between giving developers a repeatable place to test and granting approval to run software on an operational network. Future evidence should address how submissions move through that full process.
