An aircraft–ship milestone
An F-35C conducted an arrested landing and catapult launch aboard the future USS John F. Kennedy on October 13, according to reporting from USNI News and Stars and Stripes citing Navy imagery and statements.
The aircraft was assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23. The event marked the first F-35C operations of this kind on a Ford-class carrier, the reports said.
Testing is a process
A successful landing is a visible event within a much larger effort to bring a ship and its aviation systems together. It does not, by itself, establish that the carrier is ready for an operational deployment. Crews, equipment and procedures must work reliably as a system.
Readers should distinguish an individual test from delivery, commissioning and deployment milestones. Each describes a different stage. The significance here is a demonstrated interaction between the aircraft and the carrier’s launch-and-recovery equipment.
